IMAX on the Southbank

There are so many treasures on the south bank and beyond, but most Londoners seem to think that the city stops on the northern edge of the river.
If you’re a bit scared of crossing the Thames for the first time, then how about dipping your toes in first on the other side? The BFI IMAX is just by Waterloo and is one of the best places in London to see a film! If you’ve never visited an IMAX cinema before, make sure you go to the BFI Southbank first. A cheap conversion at an ODEON cinema for example will only leave you disappointed and wonder what all the fuss is about.
The BFI IMAX instantly draws your attention as it is contained in a cylindrical tube that looks like one of those old gas containers from a distance. Find your way across the busy roads though and you realise just how big this cylinder is when you get to the entrance! It’s almost clinical negligence that finding the right subway to get you to the centre can take you a bit longer then you would expect, especially if you’ve never been there before. It’s worth the effort though as upon entry you’re greeted with plush red carpet and a proper box office – it feels like a proper cinema. There’s a bar to enjoy a drink before the show in the main foyer and one upstairs outside the auditorium for good measure.
Everything pales into insignificance though when you take your seat and are confronted by a screen taller then four double decker buses and three times as wide. Designed to fill your view and immerse you in the film, you will spend the next few hours whisked away into whatever movie you came to see! Every program is introduced by a member of staff which is a nice touch and makes you feel like you’re on a real night out. Highly recommend.
