Go back in time at Greenwich

As the end of the summer holidays approach, parents are probably fast running out of ideas to keep the kids amused – without resorting to the TV and the Playstation! Luckily, the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich has plenty of family activities on offer at the end of August, which kids of all ages can get involved with and enjoy. Beats hearing them yelling at each other while you hide in your home office searching for the cheapest IT support in London!
Get yourself and the kids out of the house for a few hours, hope the weather is sunny enough to enjoy a stroll in Greenwich Park, and head south of the river via the foot tunnel from the Isle of Dogs. OK, a walk through a gloomy underground tunnel might not seem like a typical summer activity, but kids find it fascinating…
Once you get to the Old Royal Naval College, there is plenty to keep both you and the family entertained, including Craft Days on a weekend, when everyone can dress up in Tudor costumes, try their hand at traditional crafts and even play some of the games that children would have enjoyed in the past.
August 28th sees a very special guest arrive at the College, Grace O’Malley, the Pirate Queen. Actually, it’s just an actress putting on a performance, but don’t tell the enthralled children that! Shows are put on hourly throughout the afternoon and are free. Despite her gruesome life on the ocean waves, Grace’s story has been edited, to make it suitable for all the family.
